GENEROUS Stretford shoppers have given a festive boost to the Stretford Foodbank.

during a collection at the Tesco store at Stretford Mall it received enough goodies to provide more than 4,000 emergency meals, plus toiletries and Christmas treats.

The foodbank's Jim Peloe said: "We'd like to express our thanks to Ian Feeley, store manager of Tesco at Stretford Mall, for permitting us to hold a collection in the store.

"Our thanks also to to Tesco staff for their welcome and generosity, the Tesco customers and also volunteers who assisted in the collection."

The foodbank presented its 'store champion' Margaret Jones with a  bouquet of flowers.

Mr Peloe added: "We are very appreciative of work groups and individuals who make donations to The Foodbank of Christmas treats. It would be very helpful if these donations would be delivered no later than December 5."

Items it needs include mince pies, Christmas puddings, tinned ham, chocolate, nuts, jellies,tinned fruit, selection boxes, Christmas crackers, tinned salmon, Christmas cake and evaporated milk.
