HOUSING bosses have sent off cladding samples from all Trafford's tower blocks to undergo government fire safety tests - and the results are expected within 48 hours.

Government ministers have ordered social landlords in England to test cladding on all tower blocks, following the Grenfell Tower blaze in west London on June 14, which left at least 79 dead.

There was a 100 per cent failure rate on the first 75 tower blocks tested nationally.

Trafford Housing Trust (THT) - which manages eight tower blocks in the borough - pointed out last week that it uses different, non-flammable cladding to that used at Grenfell Tower.

This week a spokesperson for THT said: “Trafford Housing Trust has submitted cladding samples from all of its tower blocks for testing in accordance with the government’s urgent review of fire safety within high rise buildings.

"We anticipate getting the results within the next 24 to 48 hours.

“Regardless of the specifications and assurances we have had from manufacturers prior to these tests, if the results cast any doubts on our cladding’s ability to resist fire, or could create other potential risks to public safety should a fire occur,  we will take whatever actions are necessary, including removal.

“In the meantime at each of our towers we have deployed round-the-clock safety officers, and our staff are continuing to engage with every tenant through door-to-door visits, placing information updates in all communal areas, and other forms of direct on-site communication.

“We are also regularly updating the Trust’s website with the latest news, advice and guidance regarding fire safety, and all staff at our customer hub contact centre have been fully briefed to help tenants who contact us with any concerns.

“Trafford Housing Trust will continue to be highly vigilant and responsive with regards to this very serious issue, and the safety of our customers will remain our top priority throughout this rigorous inspection and testing process.”

In neighbouring Manchester, 17 residential tower blocks are to have their cladding stripped after they failed government tests.
