A MAJOR fire has broken out at a recently closed Stretford pub popular with Manchester United fans.
The Sam Platts pub, situated on Trafford Wharf Road close to Old Trafford, which only closed its doors over the weekend has been badly damaged in the fire.
Six engines attended the fire after being called to the scene at 1.37am with reports of a building well alight.
On arrival, the firefighters found the first floor and roof of the pub were on fire and proceeded to tackle the blaze with jets, hose reels and an aerial platform.
This morning, the incident has been scaled down but a number of crews and fire officers are still present on the scene.
An investigation into the fire will now take place.
