A POP-up Portuguese restaurant is opening its doors on Bank Holiday Monday in Stretford for one month only.

The FADO aims to bring an authentic taste of Portugal to the plates of diners perhaps longing for those lazy sun-drenched meals on holiday in Great Britain’s longest ally.

Restaurant owner and chef Mauro Felix said: “I want to offer creative and contemporary cuisine, where the tradition and the respect for Portuguese food is not forgotten.

“The aromas and flavours of Portugal are truly unique.”

Felix, 32, originally from Lisbon, has lived in Manchester for eight years. For the past three years the entrepreneur has run a successful catering business in Trafford Park. The inspiration for The Fado Restaurant came from a customer who wanted to try more dishes.

“The idea to open this little restaurant is to give people a different choice of food where they can actually relax in a very nice atmosphere,” explained Felix.

The Fado will use as many Portuguese products as possible to bring the authentic flavours to the table.

“Our signature dish is PeriPeri Chicken,” said Felix. “All our produce is cooked fresh daily on the premises.”

Other dishes include Portuguese variations on steak and fish; but for the more adventurous and curious there’s marinated Pig’s ears or flaming sausages!

The Fado, which is licensed, is open on Bank Holiday Monday from lunchtime. On opening night from 5pm Portuguese singer Marta will entertain the diners with the sound of Fado – a sort of Portugeuse folk music; and will do so every following Friday.

The restaurant is less than 200 yards from Stretford Metrolink - at 1116 Chester Road, Stretford M32 0HA – and will be open to serve breakfast from 8am daily to 11pm. To reserve a table call 0161 451 3088 or check www.thefado.co.uk
