THE Friends of Moss Park group is hosting a community planting event at the Stretford park on January 15 at 11am - and they need your help.

They hope the event will entice more people to join in and get involved in either the running of the group or the events that will be taking place.

The Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Judith Lloyd, will be present to launch the event.

Two hundred crocus bulbs will be planted to add a splash of colour in spring and everyone is welcome to come along and help plant them. Residents should bring a trowel but a few towels will be available on the day.

There will be hot and cold drinks available as well as some snacks; donations for this will go back into the park.

Friends of Moss Park is a small group run by residents and was set up to support the Moss Park play area and green space.

The group hopes to improve the park facilities, the general look and feel of the area and make it a great community space that people want to visit.

Chris Leakey, a member of the recently formed group, said: “Since setting up in November last year, the group has established links with the One Trafford Partnership and are working hard to maintain and improve the park.

"For Christmas we installed a Christmas tree in the children’s play area where it was decorated by the children from Moss Park Infant School. We also organised a litter pick event at the start of the year; collecting over 20 bags of rubbish.”

“As part of the planting event, we are also launching a public consultation that will last one month. People can make suggestions on how to improve the park, the type of facilities it should have and the kind of events it should hold. Anyone that comes along on the day can have their say.”

Suggestions and ideas will be collated and a long term improvement plan will be established. The group plan to work with One Trafford, raising money through grants and community events as well as volunteering their time and skills to make the improvements.

Residents can also take part in the consultation on the website at https://friendsofmosspark.wordpress.com/ or by visiting the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/1629374464058812
