TWO crash hotspots in Stretford are getting a safety overhaul.

One Trafford is set to undertake two safety improvement schemes in a bid to cut down on the number of casualties on the roads.

The first scheme will take place on the Sevenways Roundabout.

There will be an extension of the central island and pedestrian facilities will be installed in two locations in Barton Road.

The second scheme will take place on Kings Road, at the junction of Upper Chorlton Road, and will consist of a junction improvement scheme.

The design will slow vehicles down and allow motorists a better look at oncoming vehicles, protecting cyclists and other road users.

The works are being funded by the Greater Manchester Casualty Reduction Partnership.

Councillor John Reilly, executive member for economic growth, environment and infrastructure at Trafford Council, said: “This is fantastic news. Over a five year period, 21 collisions have taken place on these two stretches of road. This funding will allow the partnership to make big changes to these two areas and help to reduce the number of people injured on Trafford’s roads.”

One Trafford is a partnership between Trafford Council and private contractor Amey.

It is responsible for delivering a range of environmental and infrastructure services, including street cleaning, highways and property management and commercial and domestic waste management.

One Trafford has been working closely with the Greater Manchester Casualty Reduction Partnership to find ways to reduce road casualties in the borough. It is anticipated that both these projects will start on site in summer 2017.
