A FORMER Flixton Girls' School pupil's bid for stardom continues, after she and her bandmates survived on the X-Factor - by the skin of their teeth.

Seventeen-year-old Yasmin Broom, from Stretford, is taking part in the X Factor live finals as a member of the girl group Four of Diamonds.

And Yasmin and the other members of the group got through the 'sing off' - for the second successive week.

Yasmin and her three bandmates put on a powerful performance in the sing-off - and the judges voted 3 - 1 to keep them in the competition at the expense of one of the favourites, Gifty Louise, on Sunday night.

They ended up in the sing off despite delivering a performance the previous night that was praised by the judges - Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne.

Sharon said: "You have really come a long, long way.

"Your stage presence is getting so much better.

"Your vocals have always been good. tonight they were great."

But when the 2.3m votes cast were calculated, Four of Diamonds were in the bottom three and ended up in the sing off.

Judges Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne all voted to keep the girl band in the competition, though, with only Simon Cowell backing Gifty Louise.

It was the latest instalment of a rollercoaster ride for Four of Diamonds on the show. The group came back into the competition late to replace axed finalists Brooks Way, after losing their place following the ‘judges’ house’ shows’.

Yasmin’s mum, Vanessa Broom, said of Yasmin’s X Factor experience: “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for them but she's loving it. She has met some amazing people.”

She is appealing to Trafford residents to vote for Yasmin’s group to ensure it stays in the competition.

"I think it's important to show them our support as it's not every day a local girl achieves her dream."

Vanessa said, after the group made it through another week: “I was very nervous when she was in the sing off. but they did really well. A lot of people have said it was their best perfoprmance yet.
"I am very proud of her, she is doing amazingly well for such a young girl."

Yasmin - who is also known by the surname Lauryn - attended Access to Music College in in Manchester and has sang at the Urmston Live festival.

The group was put together after the girls initially auditioned as solo artists for the X-Factor.
