WHAT’S that stink?
Social media has been awash with comments about the mystery smell hanging in the air around Stretford over the past few days.
The smell, described as like rotten vegetables or faeces, has been reported from as far as Old Trafford and Gorse Hill, down to Stretford Mall and Longford Park.
Although the smell has left many scratching their heads, some have suggested it could be emanating from the sewers, as a result of the heavy downpour on Monday.
United Utilities have confirmed that some works have been going on at the treatment works, which might have caused the foul odour, and that officers will be investigating over the next five days.
