A 91-YEAR-OLD woman who left her front door open for her daughter fell victim to a distraction theft in her own home after bogus ‘council officials’ let themselves in.

At around 2.30pm on Monday October 17, two men walked into the house of an elderly home, who lived alone in Debenham Road, Stretford.

Unfortunately the door was unlocked because she was expecting her daughter.

The pensioner was upstairs at the time and when she came face-to-face with one of the intruders, he told her he was from the council and that the water needs to be turned off.

The man escorted the woman into the kitchen and kept her talking about the water supply while his accomplice went into the front room.

The elderly woman found the man in the front room and the two men fled the house.

It was only then that the resident discovered that her purse, which had cash inside, had been stolen.

The first man is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5 ft 2 to 5 ft 3 inches tall and of stocky build. He was wearing either a hat or a cap and a high vis jacket with long sleeves. He spoke with a local accent.

The second man was taller that the first man and had a slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured Duffel coat. He spoke with a local accent.

A spokesperson for GMP Trafford North said: “Please can we remind residents to make sure their windows are closed and their doors are locked. If you have elderly residents in the area please make sure that they are aware on this incident, to make sure that they check the ID of anyone calling at their address and if they are unsure, not to let workers into their address.”

If anyone has any information as to who these males are please call 101 and quote log 1569 171016.
