POLICE are hunting for yobs who seriously injured a cyclist with a 'wire trap'.

The cyclist suffered cuts to his neck after riding into a piece of wire that had been tied between two trees in Stretford.

Officers say the wire was left as a 'premeditated act' - and the man was fortunate not to have suffered even more serious injuries.

The incident happened shortly after 4.45pm on July 10 when the victim was cycling along a footpath at the rear of Cheshire Close, Stretford Meadows.

As he cycled down a hill he collided with a plastic coated wire that had been tied between two trees across the footpath, leaving him with cuts to his neck.

Police have issued images of the man’s injuries to urge members of the public to come forward.

Detective Inspector Carl Gilbert, of GMP’s Trafford borough, said: “This was a premeditated act on a man who was simply out riding his bike.

“It has left the victim with some nasty cuts to his neck and he’s lucky that the injuries were not more serious.

“It happened on a popular walking route at a busy time of the day and we would like to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw anything that can help us with our investigation to come forward."
