A TRIO on mopeds left a trial of destruction in Old Trafford during last night’s rescheduled Manchester United match, committing up to 50 smash-and-grab crimes.

Officers were called after three men on mopeds were seen causing serious damage to cars in the areas around the Old Trafford football stadium, shortly after 8.30pm on Tuesday May 14.

As many as 50 cars were affected. Many had their windows smashed and some property had been stolen including clothing, keys and CDs.

The thieves targeted the area when it was busier than usual as the Manchester United and Bournemouth game, deferred from Sunday after a bomb scare, kicked-off at the stadium at 8pm.

The men have been described as wearing black clothing and each riding on black mopeds.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen these men, or may have caught the incidents on CCTV, to get in touch as soon as possible.

Inspector Matt Crofts of GMP’s Salford Division said; “These three men left a trail of destruction across Salford and Trafford last night, and didn’t care that they were damaging people’s cars, or stealing their belongings.

“We are doing all that we can to find those responsible. We are appealing for anyone who may have any information, may have seen the men or even better, have CCTV of them to get in touch as soon as possible.

“Any information could be vital in our investigation.”
