MANFORD is a name synonymous with laughter – so Manford’s Comedy Club is a simple no-brainer.

Manchester funny-man Jason and little brother Colin are launching their successful Manford’s Comedy Club at The Garrick Playhouse in Altrincham.

The comedians, who hail from Stretford, will be bringing their favourite acts to the Garrick’s stage every month, with comedy to suit every taste, from straight stand up and one-liners, to story tellers and musical sketches.

Taking a hands-on approach, Colin will be one of four comedians featured at the launch night on Thursday February 25.

Speaking to the Messenger, Colin said: “Jason and I created the Manford’s Comedy Clubs to bring the best comedians the circuit has to offer to beautiful local venues; the idea was to make watching live comedy more affordable and closer to home.

“Since we started trading we have worked in all kinds of venues and soon realised that we only wanted to bring our shows to theatres and art centres. We also needed a new Manchester-based club; we had dabbled with night clubs in the city centre and hotels but they just weren’t right for us.

“Then we had a meeting with Neville Roby at the Garrick and it was just meant to be – a beautiful theatre with amazing staff. We knew our brand of comedy would fit perfectly.”

Comedian Colin, who is also an actor and presenter, will joined by up-and-coming comedy acts Barry Dodds, Penella Mellor and Steve Shanyaski at the Altrincham debut.

The show will take place on the fourth Thursday of the month, with a different set of comedians for each performance.

The comedy show is billed for four months but Colin assures us it is here to stay.

“The plan for Manford’s Comedy Club and the Altrincham Garrick is to keep the partnership going for as long as we can,” he said. “We’ve only scheduled until May while we confirm the new dates and get in to the summer brochure. Have no worries guys – we are not going anywhere anytime soon.”
