RESIDENTS are being urged to have their say on proposals to breathe new life into the key Lacy Street site in Stretford.

Plans include new housing, a canal side café/bar and a four storey hotel, including a ground floor food operator.

Council chiefs wants to hear people's views on the proposals for the site, seen as a potential catalyst for the wider Stretford regeneration.

The area includes a car park, Royal Mail sorting office and the Probation office site.

A public consultation on the plans runs from March 13 to April 10.

Executive councillor for economic growth and planning, Michael Hyman, said: "Securing the successful regeneration of Stretford town centre is a key council priority and significant steps have already been taken to achieve this.

"We have been delighted with the enthusiasm shown by local people, businesses and others in our efforts and I am sure they will seize the opportunity to have their say on this latest proposal.

"The Lacy Street site could provide an improved town centre gateway and help open up access to the Bridgewater Canal, one of Stretford's major assets. "Ensuring we secure the right scheme for the site is vital as we continue our commitment to transform the area into a vibrant, attractive, strong and sustainable area that local people and visitors alike can enjoy."

At the end of the consultation, all views and comments will be analysed and the results published. The proposals being consulted on will then be modified where possible to take into account suggestions made by contributors.
