A STRETFORD woman has been convicted of benefit fraud after falsely claiming more than £10,000.

On October 3, Leian White, 30, of Moss Vale Crescent was sentenced to a four month curfew between 7pm and 6am, ordered to pay £190 towards the cost of the prosecution and pay a victim surcharge of £60.

Miss White pleaded guilty to dishonestly making false representations and failing to notify changes in her circumstances to the Department for Work and Pensions and Trafford Council.

She failed to disclose that she was living with her partner while submitting claims to benefits on the basis that she was a lone parent.

This led to her being overpaid benefits between June 2012 and November 2013.

Executive councillor Patrick Myers said: "The council will not tolerate people fraudulently claiming benefits, money which we want to ensure goes to those people who are legally entitled to it.

"This case once again reinforces the importance of people advising us of changes in their circumstances at the earliest possible opportunity."
