KATE Green will be at Stretford Fire Station supporting the annual ‘Road Safety Day’, on June 8.

The event, which is taking place between 11am and 4pm, forms part of the Stretford and Urmston MPs ‘Safer Trafford Streets’ campaign.

Following the success of last year’s event, Ms Green has once again teamed up with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), Greater Manchester Police and Trafford Council, to run the day, which is open to all.

The event will feature a series of interactive workshops and events run by organisations including Greater Manchester Probation Service, Magistrates in the Community and Altrincham Advanced Motorists.

Gethin Curzon, station manager at Stretford Fire Station said: “GMFRS is delighted to support the event at Stretford Fire Station as road traffic collisions are usually preventable emergency incidents that can have serious and tragic consequences.

“If we can work with our partners in driving down these incidents then we are more than happy to be part of such events, which help to get across important safety messages.”

Ms Green said: “One of the main things to come out of my Safer Trafford Streets survey was the concern that more needs to be done to educate people about road safety and change driver behaviour.

“I hope that this day will go some way towards helping people to think more about road safety.

“If any other organisations or community groups would be interested in running a session on the day, then there is still time to get involved – please contact my office on 0161 749 9120 to find out how.”
