FURTHER to the recent article about the proposals by Manchester United to use two areas of car parking for other purposes, I would urge Stretford residents to look up the planning applications – references 82635/FULL/2014 and 82636/FULL/2014 – to see what is proposed.

Effectively, it is the replacement of the loss of a small area of car parking, currently theoretically available for a small marquee, with the loss of two areas of car parking to allow for a much larger marquee and an all-weather pitch.

The net result will be the loss of around 200 parking spaces.

Those of us living just outside of the car parking permit zone know where those cars will go.

The club's agent tries to say that the areas of car parking will not be missed.

This is, of course, highly questionable, and is not borne out by the experience of those residents who face growing on-street parking pressures year on year.

It is another attempt by global Man Utd to increase revenue at the expense of locals. If you are concerned, please write in to the council to object.
