TWO Stretford travel agents who have lost loved ones to Cancer have kick-started a fundraising drive for Macmillan.

Vikki Lomas, 28, who works at Co-operative Travel in Stretford Mall, lost her mum Gaynor to cancer when she was just 48, while her colleague, Kira Foden, 35, lost a very close friend, who was in her 30s, to the same disease.

Macmillan Cancer Support provided help and support when Vikki and her family and Kira’s friend desperately needed it, so they decided to start fundraising for the charity.

Vikki, who lives in Bredbury, said: “My Mum died within just 16 weeks of being diagnosed with cancer.

“While she was still at home the Macmillan nurses came round to see her twice a week and couldn’t do enough for her. They were really incredible.

“They also helped myself and other members of my family. I was shutting everything out and didn’t want to accept what was happening to my Mum but they helped me come to terms with everything.”

Kira, from Stretford, added: “So many people these days seem to have their lives affected by cancer and Macmillan does such a marvellous job in helping people to get through it I just wanted to try to give them something back.”

Vikki and Kira’s latest fundraiser is a charity trip to Llandudno, with funds from the £12- a-head tickets and collections on board the coach to be donated to Macmillan.

There are still a few vacant seats on the coach and to book a place, call Co-operative Travel in Stretford Mall on 0844 335 78 28.
