A SITE in Sale has benefited from a £7.3 million project to defend the region’s electricity network against flooding.
Electricity North West is implementing protection measures at 31 sites.
Those already protected include Ventnor Avenue in Sale.
Electricity North West – which, operates and maintains the region’s power network – has used up-to-date flood mapping information to identify sites at risk of flooding. It has taken preventative measures such as building higher walls, waterproofing walls, installing pumps which remove water automatically when it rains; and ensuring that all ‘at risk’ sites have doors protected by flood barriers.
Electricity North West’s asset manager, Eddie Hamilton, said: “While we can’t predict how weather changes might affect the timescales of this type of project, it is good to be in a position where we know that we’re ahead of our plan to install extra protection in some of the higher-risk areas, such as Sale.”
