AS a result of the community’s generosity, We Are Sale Moor’s (WASM) Christmas Raffle has successfully raised over £1,500 to make the village sparkle this past Christmas and for years to come.

The group raise money each year to hire Christmas lights for the village, however this year they decided this was not viable and decided to raise money for their own lights.

The raffle included prizes donated by local independent traders, part of a plan to gradually build up a full complement of Christmas lights for the village over the next five years.

The community group also marked the start of the festive season together, by organising a viewing of the Christmas classic It’s a Wonderful Life at Sale Moor Community Centre on December 9.

The pop-up cinema event was attended by over 70 guests, including the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Jonathan Coupe.

Anna Bond, Chair of WASM, said: “We would like to say a huge thanks to the businesses that have donated raffle prizes and to the members of the local community who volunteered to organise both the raffle and the cinema event.

“Our team will be meeting in the New Year to decide on our plans for 2018, which are likely to include more fundraising to enable us to add to our current stock of lights, more pop-up cinema events and possibly a Christmas Market and switch-on event.

“We can’t the make Village sparkle without the help of volunteers. We encourage anyone who wants to get involved with We Are Sale Moor to please contact us for more information by emailing us at wearesalemoor@gmail.com.”
