LOCAL community group, We Are Sale Moor, has launched a festive fundraiser to make the Village sparkle every Christmas.

Over the next fiver years, the the group plan to gradually build up a full complement of Christmas lights for the Village and this year have launched a raffle to raise the money.

Last year, the group raised nearly £4,500 through an online crowdfunding campaign to hire lights for the Village, in line with advice from Trafford Council.

However, the group felt that hiring lights each year wasn’t viable and, instead, has decided to buy them.

Anna Bond, Chair of We Are Sale Moor, said: “The community overwhelmed us with their fantastic response to our crowdfunding last year and we felt we couldn’t keep asking them to help us raise that much money every year - simply to hire lights.

“A full complement of lights for the Village could cost as much as £8,000 – plus the additional expense of storage and installation each year – so our plan is to gradually build up to a full set by buying something new each year.

“It feels like a more prudent use of the community’s generosity, so I hope they’ll be as enthusiastic in their support of our raffle this year, as they were for the crowdfunding last year.

“There are some amazing prizes that are really worth winning and we send huge thanks to the businesses that have donated them to us.”

Prizes for the raffle include; contributions from Traders in the Village towards a £100 cash prize, £100 voucher for Rose and Grey, £110 photography package from Anna Hardy Photography, tickets to the new Dino Falls Golf experience, a C9 weight management treatment from Forever Aloe, festive food and drink packages from Waitrose and Bargain Booze, a Christmas wreath from Fleur de Vie, vouchers for Amphora and Serendipitea in Sale and many more.

Tickets cost £1 or £5 for a book - and are available online at wearesalemoor.co.uk and from several shops in Sale Moor Village, including Taylor’s, Hesketh’s, Orchard Greenery and Charlie’s Corner.

The group hope to raise at least £2,000 this year to buy two cross-street displays to hang above Northenden Road.

The raffle will be drawn at We Are Sale Moor’s pop-up cinema at Sale Moor Community Centre on Saturday December 9.
