THE company behind a £65m scheme to revamp Sale wants to hear what people think about its plans.

Developer Maloneview (Sale) is holding a public consultation on its proposals, which would see see the partial demolition of The Square Shopping Centre.

The firm says the mixed-use regeneration scheme would deliver up to 205 residential units, ranging from studios to a selection of townhouses, alongside up to 3,400 sq m of retail and leisure floorspace, a 2,000 sq m, a six screen cinema as well as an extensive new public realm; and a new plaza bordering Sibson and Springfield Roads to the south.

Maloneview claims this would revitalise the town centre, delivering hundreds of new jobs and boost Sale’s economy

It continues that it will not only boost Sale’s credentials as a key shopping and leisure destination, but also improve the town’s night time economy; and provide a much-needed gateway into the existing town centre from the south.

Mark Rebbeck, commercial director at Maloneview, said: “Our £65m mixed-use regeneration scheme will provide much needed new housing in the town centre, but will also deliver extensive new areas of improved streetscape and landscaping, a cinema and new restaurants in a plaza to the south.

"The new and enhanced facilities will widen the appeal of Sale as a key shopping and leisure destination, delivering hundreds of new jobs and increasing footfall in the local area.

"Over November, we will be consulting on our full planning application for the Square Shopping Centre and we want to encourage members of the public and local residents to attend our consultation events and have their say to help shape these exciting plans for the town centre.”

Cllr Barry Brotherton, of Priory ward, told Messenger that "an additional 200 flats would put increased strain on the local infrastructure."

Residents will have the opportunity to view and comment on plans and find out more information at two events to be held on Thursday, November 16, between 4pm and 8pm, and Saturday, November 18, between 11am and 3pm, at the Square Shopping Centre in Sale Town Centre.
