A FLATS development on the site of a former eyesore in Sale will be completed within three months.

The scheme on the site of the former Waggon and Horses pub, is nearing completion. It will include 34 apartments.

The pub closed in early 2003 and quickly fell into disrepair. It also become subject to frequent incidents of vandalism, arson and illegal flyposting.

Trafford developer Laurus Homes began work on a major development on the plot in 2015.

Named Maple Court, the development from will feature 24 two-bedroom flats, six two-bedroom flats and four one-bedroom flats.

There will also be shops on the Cross Street-facing ground floor.

The apartments are now available for sale, with the full development due for completion in January 2018.

The scheme attracted the interest of Greater Manchester’s Mayor Andy Burnham, who visited the project during his time on the campaign trail in April.

At the time, Mr Burnham said: “This is an imaginative scheme and demonstrates what can be achieved when developers and housing providers work closely together."

Larry Gold, deputy chief executive of Trafford Housing Trust - which set up Laurus Homes - said: “The M33 postcode was recently voted as one of England’s most desirable places to live due to its proximity to good schools, access to green spaces and good employment prospects.

“Maple Court also benefits from fantastic transport links; a bus stop on the routes into Manchester City Centre is located directly outside Maple Court, with the development also being situated close to both Dane Road and Sale Metrolink stations, the M60 and Manchester International Airport.

“The combination of a great location, convenient amenities and services, quality of life, and the high standard of accommodation with which the Laurus name has become synonymous over the last two years, means these flats will be in very high demand.”

Over the next four years, Laurus Homes will be building at least 2000 much-needed new homes across the North West with further developments in Cheshire and other areas of Greater Manchester already announced.

Laurus Homes currently has availability at nearby development Woodfield Road in Altrincham, where they are offering three-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments for Sale.
