THE Mayor, Cllr. Jonathan Coupe, raised the Royal British Legion flag over Sale Town Hall on Saturday to signal the start of the 2017 Poppy Appeal. Representatives from the Legion and Poppy collection volunteers joined the mayor for the ceremony.

The flag will fly over the Town Hall for the duration of the two-week appeal.

Poppies and a variety of “poppy merchandise” will be available from volunteer street collectors and can also be purchased throughout Sale at shops, banks, bars and restaurants.

There will be a poppy stall on School Road each Saturday of the appeal where all poppy appeal items can be purchased.

Sale residents are huge supporters of the Poppy Appeal, raising over £39,000 for the 2016 appeal.

Donations support the Legion's work in providing medical, financial and general support to those members of the armed forces who suffer injuries while serving their country and to families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Annual Service of Remembrance will be held at the Sale War Memorial, outside Sale Town Hall on Sunday, November 12 at 10.45am.
