TRAFFORD MP Kate Green has slammed the Conservative Party's proposed link up with the Democratic Unionist Party.

The Conservatives are seeking agreement with the Democratic Unionist Party to remain in power, after the General Election result left the Conservatives as the largest party but without a majority.

Labour MP for Stretford and Urmston, Ms Green, said: "Theresa May's chaotic attempts to form a Government with the tawdry DUP are a disaster for the country.

"It is hard to see how long she can continue. Labour and Jeremy Corbyn stand ready to step into the breach, with an alternative budget and Queen's speech, which we will invite other parties to support."

But another Trafford MP, Graham Brady, has said the Conservative Party has no appetite for a leadership challenge - or the public for another General Election.

That is despite warnings from former Chancellor George Osborne that Prime Minister Theresa May will never lead the party into another General Election after the Conservatives failed to secure a majority in last week's election.

However, Altrincham and Sale West MP Mr Brady, the influential chairman of the Conservative backbench 1922 Committee, said there was no appetite for a leadership contest which could see the party having to fight another General Election.

Mr Brady said he did not believe there was any mood among Conservative MPs for a leadership contest that would create fresh instability.

"I think that there is zero appetite amongst the public for another General Election at the moment and I don't detect any great appetite amongst my colleagues for presenting the public with an additional dose of uncertainty by getting involved in a rather self-indulgent Conservative Party election campaign," he told the BBC's Sunday Politics.
