A SALE family have organised a jam-packed fundraising event to thank Ronald McDonald house for its support during a difficult time – and both Man City and Man United fans will in for a treat.

Helen Banks and her family are gearing up for their charity night at Metrovicks Rugby Club tomorrow, Friday November 18, from 7.30pm.

Proceeds will be donated to Ronald McDonald House, which provides free 'home away from home' accommodation to families with children receiving treatment in the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

Sadly, Helen had to use the service after her 14-year-old son fell critically ill during the summer. He was in a coma for two weeks and in hospital for five weeks. During this time, a member of his family could always be by his side, thanks to Ronald McDonald House.

Helen said: “The house provided great comfort and support to me and my family at this devastating and terrifying time.

“I have set up a Justgiving page and over the next six months, I am aiming to raise £2,500 to help other families that are constantly going through the same trauma that we have suffered.”

Tomorrow night is the first big fundraising push and dozens of businesses and organisations have got on board, including Manchester United, Man City and Sale Sharks. As well as entertainment, including a DJ and a gospel choir, there will be a huge raffle and auction, with donated prizes worth more than £2,500.

The auction includes two match tickets to any Manchester United game, as well as a Match Crest signed by players; two tickets to any Manchester City game, and a John Smedley Man City team jumper; four tickets to a Sale Sharks game in December; Cork of the North wine case; a Harvey Nichols hamper; and Anna Windass’ fire outfit from Coronation Street.

There are also a bevy of raffle prizes, including Harvey Nichols gifts and facials; a meal for two at Lunya; a Minikin Kids Party for 10, wine tasting tickets, Everton signed photograph; Barber Shop vouchers; a B Company voucher; American Nails voucher; Bean and Brush vouchers; a meal for two and wine at Kings Ransom; AMC cinema tickets and goodies from Boots, WOW Comix, Boots, Sallys and Quality Save.

Five tickets cost just £5.

Helen said: “My son has experienced a massive trauma and is still recovering but he is lucky to have survived his illness. I have had a huge amount of support from the local community, Ashton-on-Mersey School and from the staff at the hospital that looked after him, and of course, the Ronald McDonald House.

“Quality Save have made all this possible by letting us bag pack in their store. The staff have been amazing.”

Tickets for the event are £15 and can be paid on the door. If you can’t make the event, you can still make a cash donation at justgiving.com/fundraising/Helen-Banks6.
