THE Mayor, Cllr Judith Lloyd, raised the Royal British Legion flag over Sale Town Hall to signal the start of the 2016 Poppy Appeal. Representatives from the Royal British Legion, Poppy collection volunteers and officers and cadets from the Air Training Corps (318 Sale Squadron) were at the ceremony, on October 29.

The flag will fly over the Town Hall for the duration of the two week appeal.

Poppies and a variety of 'poppy merchandise' will be available from volunteer street collectors and can also be purchased throughout Sale at shops, banks, bars and restaurants. A 'poppy stall' will be held in the shopping mall each Saturday of the appeal where all poppy appeal items can be purchased.

Last year, Sale residents raised more than £34,000 for the appeal. Donations help the Legion to provides medical, financial and general support to members of the armed forces who suffer injuries whilst serving their country and to families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Annual Service of Remembrance will be held at the Sale War Memorial, outside Sale Town Hall on Sunday, November 13 at 10:45am.
