A MAN has been jailed for 24 weeks after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods from a property in Rostherne.

Nicholas Justin Thornton, 45, from Haydock Avenue in Sale was arrested after the stolen motorbike, accessories and tools were tracked to his home in June.

On Thursday, June 9, a Yamaha YZ Motorcross bike was stolen during a burglary as well as leathers, helmets and tools.

Thornton was arrested four days later following an investigation carried out by Knutsford Police beat team.

On Tuesday, October 25 Thornton appeared at Stockport Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to Handling Stolen Goods.

He was sentenced to 24 weeks imprisonment and also ordered to pay the £115 victim surcharge.

PC Mike Dawber, Rural Beat Officer for Knutsford said “Cheshire Constabulary works hard to tackle both vehicle crime and rural offences, and we will continue to do so.

“This is a good result for the Constabulary and the stolen motorbike and accessories have subsequently been returned to their rightful owner.”

A “Ruralwatch scheme” is in operation across Knutsford and for details of how to join contact Cheshire Police on 101.
