A SERIES of guided winter-themed walks has been launched in Trafford.

The ‘Wonderful Winter Walks’ start on November 8 and carry on into the new year aiming to get people out and about.

The winter walks are being run by City of Trees, supported by Trafford Strategic Sport and Physical Activity Partnership, with the aim of encouraging residents to get out and get active even during the winter months.

Trafford is home to 30 municipal parks, and a diverse range of historic open spaces and visitor attractions, with the new monthly walks taking place in Sale Water Park, which is also home to Broad Ees Dole, Trafford’s first nature reserve.

The first walk takes place on November 8 and is themed around Tree-ID, where walkers can identify trees and learn more about the woodlands.

Janie Burrage, from 'green' group City of Trees, said: “Whatever your age or fitness ability, walking is amazing for our health and wellbeing, and Sale Water Park offers fantastic accessible walking routes.

“Exploring on foot is a great way to discover beautiful places which provide a perfect escape from the pressures of modern city life.”

The December walk takes place on THE 13th and gives participants the chance to collect willow on site to make festive decorations from natural materials, including woven stars and hearts.

New Year walks include a ‘New Year Journey’ on January 10, and a valentine-themed ‘Speed walking’ event on February 14.

In addition to the winter themed sessions, City of Trees runs regular walks across the Trafford borough throughout the year.
