DOORSTEP fraudsters are preying on the good will of residents by pretending to be from a prominent children’s charity to scam people out of cash.

On Tuesday October 25, two men were knocking on doors in Catterick Avenue, Sale, asking for donations on behalf of Barnardo’s charity. One resident they tried to trick suspected it to be a scam after she was asked for her bank details.

After the woman raised the alarm with the police, officers made enquiries with the charity, who confirmed that the agents were fake as they had no-one operating in the area at that time.

Both men are described as white, wearing smart trousers, and one was wearing glasses.

A spokesperson for GMP Trafford South warned: “Always be mindful when opening the door to strangers and never do business with door to door salespeople.”
