STEP back in time in Sale this weekend.

The Parish Church of St. Paul, in Springfield Road, will be throwing open its doors on Saturday September 10, from 10am to 5pm, as part of the National Heritage Open Day.

Among the many attractions is a fascinating exhibition of old and rare photographs entitled “A walk around Sale’. The exhibition will take visitors on a journey around old Sale and will feature photos never before seen by the public.

Professional storyteller Helen Stewart will also be on hand to spin yarns and weave tales for all ages and family fun includes a traditional ‘Punch and Judy Show’, magic show, plate spinning, bouncy castle and period games.

There will be performances from the Sale Handbell Ringers at 11am, Bollin Morris - Old English Morris Dancing at 1.30pm, Cadishead Brass Band at 2.30pm and the St. Paul’s Church and Community Choir will also be making an appearance at 3.30pm.

Highlights of the day include guided tours of the Church Tower and Belfry, and for those who enjoy watching “Who Do You Think You Are” with an interest in family history, there will be a unique opportunity to view the Parish Registers.

There will be various exhibitions showing off many of St. Paul’s hidden gems, with displays of artefacts and vestments. Professor James Prescott Joule - the Father of the International Unit of Energy – will be making an appearance and talking about his experiments.

Throughout the day, there will be Victorian Afternoon Teas in the church hall, with harpist Sarah Paterson playing from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. There will be a BBQ on the south lawn from 12noon to 3pm.
