HE has won the praise of Sir Alex Ferguson and Muhammad Ali and Professor Damian Hughes is sharing the secrets to emulating such success with the world.

Professor Hughes' ‘The Five STEPS to a Winning Mindset’ teaches readers how to replicate the successes of sporting legends in their own lives.

It is the latest offering from the acclaimed Sale author, who also wrote Liquid Thinking and the hugely-successful How to Think Like Sir Alex Ferguson. The Professor of Organisational Psychology and Change for Manchester Metropolitan University combines his practical and academic background within sport, organization and change psychology to work as a trusted adviser to business, education and sporting elite.

With ‘The Five STEPS to a Winning Mindset’, Professor Hughes draws on his first-hand experience working with some of the world’s top coaches. He ‘distils the ingredients of successful teams’, from Barcelona FC to the New Zealand All Blacks, to five key elements; Simplicity, Thinking, Emotions, Practical, and Stories.

He claims these can be applied to ‘any professional or personal environment involving recruiting, developing and nurturing talent or communicating a shared vision across a diverse collection of individuals, handling pressure and staying focused’.

Professor Hughes provides an in-depth analysis of Jose Mourinho, who he suggests is a candidate for best coach, at any sport, in the world. He also looks at the differences between Ferguson and Moyes and examines the working practices of Louis Van Gaal.

He adds a personal touch by using a story about his dad, the great Manchester boxing trainer Brian Hughes.

The book, which has been published by Macmillan, hit bookshelves in July and has enjoyed early success, with it ranking Number 4 on the WHSmith bestsellers list in the first week of its release.

The Five Steps to a Winning Mindset is priced at £12.99 and is available from WHSmith and Amazon.
