A MARTIAL arts club is making all the right moves, bringing a haul of medals back home to Sale.
Renshinkan Aikido Club, which is based at Ashton Upon Mersey School, took a team of 11 children to Bradford to compete in the Junior Aikido National Championships 2016.
Eight children came away with silver medals and three won best individuals in the under 8, under 10 and under 12 categories.
Instructor Steve Evans said: “It was great to see the children do so well. We have only been running the club for 18 months and the children have done really well.
“We pride ourselves on being a family club, where medals and competing are secondary to the children training and learning aikido as a martial art.
“I am really proud of how the children performed and it’s a great skill to have to be able to stand up in front of an audience of hundreds of people and demonstrate and compete.”
The Japanese martial art of aikido is a comprehensive system of throwing, joint-locking, striking and pinning techniques, coupled with training in traditional Japanese weapons such as the sword, staff and knife.
It is one of the most widely practiced budo, or martial way, in the world.
