SALE High School pupils showed their true mettle when they emerged victorious at the school’s annual debate.

Each year, the Norris Road school’s English department host their Great Debate Competition, which sees students researching and preparing presentations on thought provoking topics which they then deliver in front of their peers.

The finalists were then cheered on by their families.

This year, a wide variety of topics were covered, including euthanasia, gun laws and the EU, and the winning speech was written and delivered by Sam Brears and Jake Bloem.

The Year 10 duo provided an impressive speech on homophobia in today’s society.

The boys received a certificate and a £50 voucher.
