A new Co-op food store opened in Sale today, Thursday 15, following an investment of nearly £700,000.

Children from Woodheys Primary School officially cut the ribbon to declare the new store in Washway Road, which has created 12 new jobs, open.

It is the first store in South Manchester to feature the Co-op’s iconic new blue clover-leaf branding.

The new food store will open between 7am-11pm and also offers an ATM.

The new store – on the site of the former American Golf shop - is replacing the former one on the opposite side of the Washway Road.

Ciaran May, manager of the new Co-op food store, said: “The Co-op is committed to transforming and growing its convenience business and we are delighted to have made such a significant investment in Sale – the new store looks great and it really is an exciting time for the whole team.

“As a community retailer, and a co-operative, our aim is to establish the store as a community hub, playing a real part in local life and delivering a compelling and convenient shopping experience locally.”

Cat Derbyshire has been appointed ‘Community Pioneer’ at the new store.

Cat is a member of the food store team who will also work to foster involvement in community activities.

The first focus of the store’s community support will be working with Sale swimming club, providing £1000 for new sports kits and accessories.
