BOWDON millionaires joined several other National Lottery winners in digging deep for a charity close to the heart of Sale.

Nigel and Sharon, who scooped £12.4million on Euromillions in 2010, donned their gardening gloves and overalls on Tuesday to help breathe new life into the homes and gardens at Stockdales.

Stockdales is a charity dedicated to improving life for adults and children with learning and physical disabilities and life limiting conditions. It launched more than 60 years ago and is a vital lifeline for more than 200 families across the North West.

Nigel and Sharon, who are originally from Sale, have dedicated large amounts of their time to Stockdales since their win, with Nigel even becoming a trustee of the charity.

He said: “Sharon and I have literally fallen in love with the place. It is such an essential resource for so many people.

“I am delighted that we have been able to spend time at Stockdales and doing something which will benefit everyone who both lives here and visits here.

“It has been great to work alongside the children and young adults who have been able to play a really active role in transforming this special place.”

The couple were joined by other several other North West National Lottery winners, who have a combined wealth of £50million, in sprucing up the charity’s gardens and homes.

Some of the children and young adults helped with the creation of a herb garden, sensory garden and a wishing tree, which will become a focal point next to the main entrance at Stockdales.

A number of the homes were also painted by the group.

Emma Morris, chief executive at Stockdales, said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome all of the lottery winners and we are so grateful for everything they have done. None of this would be possible without their generous support.”

Stockdales has previously benefited from £28,000 of National Lottery funding, which was used to buy two minibuses and launched an allotment group.
