SALE residents have hit out at ‘senseless’ vandals who are ‘ruining’ the town with graffiti.

Over the weekend, residents spotted that taggers had been out in force, spraying graffiti on walls, fences, pavements and even trees in residential streets in Sale.

Some of the worst hit areas were Plant Close, Queens Road and York Road.

The highest concentration seems to be on Ashton Lane, where the Messenger counted seven pieces of graffiti in just one hundred yards, including the Salvation Army building.

The graffiti has been reported to the police, who are investigating the spate of offences.

A Sale resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said: "It is upsetting and disappointing to see a small minority of people ruining it for everyone, resorting to senseless vandalism in an attempt to gain attention.

“We all work hard in our neighbourhood and local community to make Sale an attractive place to live - for everyone to enjoy and feel safe.

"This sort of graffiti is not only offensive but costs local authorities, and therefore council taxpayers, to have removed. What's more, this is not the first time to have happened.

"It is our collective responsibility to be vigilant and report the taggers who are ruining our environment. I hope they think twice next time they are bored and have a can of spray paint in hand."

A spokesperson for GMP Trafford South said: “We are currently investigating various graffiti offences which have occurred on Ashton Lane in Sale.

“If you have witnessed anything or have any information please contact PC Foreman at Altrincham Police Station on 0161 856 7530 or report anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“If you do witness any person(s) in the act of committing an offence please report to 101.”
