ELLIE Hilton, a 12-year-old member of the 3rd Ashton Scout Group is raising funds to take part in Poacher 2017, a 5000-strong camp for Scouts and Guides from around the world. It will take place in July next year in Lincoln.

She needs £270 for her place so, on Saturday, May 21, she will take part in the 2.3k Greater Manchester Junior Run around the Etihad Campus in Manchester.

The Ashton-on-Mersey school pupil from Manley Road, Sale, has earned her communication, entertainment and circus skills badges and is waiting for them to arrive.

The jamboree will concentrate on Adventure and Creative activities with entertainment provided.

Ellie said: “I am looking forward to zorbing (rolling downhill inside an orb) and flying down zip wires.”

She thinks the nightly camp fires will be great.

Just in case her run doesn’t earn enough money, Ellie is selling jars wrapped in wool to keep pens or flowers in.

Sarah Goodstadt, scout leader, said: “We have 25 scouts attending and we didn’t want parents to pay for it. Raising the money themselves will help the young people appreciate it more.”

Sarah said they are doing joint events, too. “We had a stall at a dog show in Worthington Park recently,” she said.
