A UNIQUE secular ‘church’ founded on the belief that life should be celebrated is coming to Trafford.

Sunday Assembly was started by Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, two comedians who discovered they both wanted to do something that was like church but non-religious and inclusive.

After becoming established in London, it expanded into 70 Sunday Assembly chapters in eight different countries – and now it has made its way to Trafford.

The first secular event in the borough will be held at Sale’s Masonic Hall on April 24.

Hosted by Sunday Assembly’s co-founder Sanderson, and featuring a keynote talk being given by leading human rights barrister Harriet Johnson, the free event has a theme of community and will feature group singing sessions, readings and discussions.

It is being organised by Sunday Assembly Manchester, a regional branch of the Sunday Assembly global network, and is supported by Trafford Housing Trust.

The event, which is expected to attract more than 100 people, is the first of a series of three planned for Trafford.

Omar Al-Amin, Sunday Assembly Manchester’s Community Organiser, said: “Every event we host sets out to unite ordinary people who want to celebrate all aspects of life with without a religious dimension.

“Through this we really help to forge links between individuals, groups and whole communities, and I can’t wait for our first Trafford event later this month as I’m sure it will be a huge success.”

People interested in attending the event are welcome at Sale’s Masonic Hall from 11am – 1pm, or can contact Omar for more details omar@sundayassembly.com

Dates of future Trafford Sunday Assembly gatherings in Trafford will be announced soon.
