A SALE business’ resident chatterbox resisted the chance to powwow and kept her lips sealed to help boost office funds for the National Autistic Society.

Staff at Stanton Fisher, in Dane Road, raised almost £400 to mark World Autism Awareness Week 2016 (April 2-8).

The fundraising feat was achieved through a variety of activities, including a cake bake and ‘guess the baby’ competition.

Office chatterbox Lorna Hughes, from Sale, was tasked with keeping quiet for the day and her sponsored silence proved a resounding success, raising a third of the total.

Staff also came to work in onesies.

Stanton Fisher chief executive, James Boyd, said: “It was so pleasing to see everyone making the effort with the cakes and the games, we also saw some very interesting onesies.

“One of our colleagues used impressive baking skills to create emoji cupcakes. The cakes had a deeper meaning that explores how some people with autism struggle to understand expressions.

“I was especially proud of Lorna. I’m sure it took great willpower to stay quiet throughout the day and to raise so much money whilst doing so, is fantastic.

“It was great to see everyone working as a team to raise money for such a worthy cause. Showing support through raising money and awareness of autism is such a rewarding feeling and I can’t thank everyone involved enough for making the day a success.”

Lorna added: “It was so hard keeping silent, but it was for a very good cause and I think most people enjoyed speaking to each other for once.”
