IT’S the start of the tennis season and all budding players – not matter what ability or age – are being invited to pop down to Urmston Tennis Club.

The Moorside Road club is ‘Welcome Wednesday’ sessions, beginning Wednesday April 6.

‘Welcome Wednesday’ will comprise of a 90 minute session (6-7.30pm) where juniors, families and adults will get the chance to sample three different free thirty minute coaching sessions run by Urmston head coach, Dave Martin.

There will be cardio tennis for all which combines music and tennis based fitness, a family and junior session and a Rusty Rackets session for new or returning tennis players.

There will also be club night match play singles and doubles.

Club chairman Chris Ryan said: “This is a great way to have a go at or get back in to tennis and all you need is a pair of trainers and a racket. We have number of men's, ladies' and junior teams who all play in local leagues and welcome anyone who would be keen to join our friendly tennis community here.

“We want to make Wednesdays a focus for all our members and potential members to join in with free coaching to help enable all concerned to then feed into the most appropriate coaching session, social tennis session or team.”

The club has three all-weather courts and three shale courts with a number of grass courts being prepared for the summer season.

The club had been successful in a bid for £10,000 from Trafford Housing Trust to refurbish three courts as red clay.

Chris said: "We are once again extremely grateful to the Trafford Housing Trust Community Panel as we have been successful in obtaining funding of £10,000 to refurbish our old shale courts and transform them to red clay.

“Having three new courts that will be playable all year round enables us to further grow the number of people playing tennis in Urmston and provide excellent sports facilities for the local community."
