THE cast of Coronation Street was in Sale this week - filming the scenes for Tina McIntyre’s murder.

The death of the popular character has yet to be aired in the show, but it is set to spark a ‘whodunnit’ frenzy.

The funeral of Tina - played by Michelle Keegan - was filmed at historic St Martin’s Church in Ashton on Mersey.

Messenger photographer Sally Greenway snapped some of the cast as they took a break in filming.

Actors Simon Gregson - who plays Steve McDonald - and Chris Gascoyne - who portrays Tina’s married lover, Peter Barlow - seemed to be preparing for a scene, with ‘Steve’ restraining ‘Peter’.

Helen Worth - who plays Gail Platt - was looking forlorn in front of a grave. According to the storyline, the grave of Tina’s ‘father’ and her boyfriend, Joe McIntyre (actor Reece Dinsdale) is in the same graveyard. The character died in a boating accident in February 2010, A relaxed looking Jack P Shepherd - who plays Gail’s son. David Platt - was chatting to some of the crew.

Chris Gascoyne had a cigarette during a break in filming.

Fans of the show will have to wait seven weeks to see the funeral scenes, which will be broadcast on June 23.

St Martin’s, on Church Lane, which is 710 years old, is a favourite venue for the production team of the 53-year old soap.

It was used in July 2012 to film the christening of teenage couple Katy Armstrong and Chesney Brown’s baby, Joseph. Two years earlier the church was used to film the funeral of Blanche, the TV mother of Deidre Barlow.
