DESPITE wind and rain, the third Partington Family Funday went ahead on June 23.

The Friends of Cross Lane Park joined with Positive Partington Residents Association and Urmston Lions to ensure the event went on.

There was a morning ‘pitch inspection’, when the intended Funday site was found to be waterlogged.

A quick decision was taken to relocate the site to another area of the park. A new running track was created and the Lions tent was erected with the help of volunteers.

More people came to the site and offered their help in the preparations. It was a real case of the whole community getting together to make sure the event happened.

At 1pm the fun began and shortly after that Cllr Pauline Young, the Mayor of Trafford and her consort, Michael Young, arrived on the park. Running races, sack races and egg and spoon races were soon in full swing.

The Mayor met most of the participants - and joined in the Partington Pre-Olympic Synchronised Wellie Throwing contest, pictured.
