Fresh plans for Partington shopping centre are tabled

Partingon shopping centre to go ahead as planned Partingon shopping centre to go ahead as planned

THE REGENERATION of Partington has taken yet another step forward after further plans were approved by Trafford’s planning committee.

The committee met last week to discuss the latest wave of plans, which will see the existing shopping centre on Central Road replaced with a new one.

The new and improved shopping centre, developed by Peel Holdings, will include shops, offices, restaurants, car parking and a village square.

Members of the planning committee said they were keen for work to begin as soon as possible, although several committee members were concerned with the applicant’s parking policy.

Within the planning report, it states that Peel reserve the right to include a charge or time restriction should there be availability problems.

Cllr Laurence Walsh said he understood the time restrictions but did not agree with charging. He said: “I’m happy to support this application but I would like an insurance that we don’t impose a parking charge on the car park.”

The planning committee agreed with Cllr Walsh and said that Peel can only impose a parking charge if they request to do so in writing.

Donna Barber, a planning consultant on the project, told the committee: “The shopping centre will help to attract shoppers and investors to the area and will help with its commercial growth.”
