Performance at the Fuse, Partington, puts the spotlight on health

The play has been organised by NHS Trafford and Harvest Housing, and takes place on the 70th day of the Trafford Partnership’s 100 Day Campaign.

The play centres on the lives of five separate families who each have secrets about what goes on in their homes. Topics explored in the play include alcohol abuse, sexual health, teenage pregnancy, mental health, young carers and domestic violence.

Susie Jones, health improvement officer at NHS Trafford and the play’s production manager, said: “We wanted to find a way to bring the alcohol awareness message to life, and came up with the idea of doing it through a play. This gave us the opportunity to also explore other health issues that might affect the community.

“There are some very strong messages in the play. The audience can expect to go on an emotional journey with the families as they find out the effects of peer pressure and why some people always hide away from the world.

“The production has really brought the community together. We have an intergenerational cast, most of whom have never acted before, who have really enjoyed being involved in the play. We hope the audience will take away the message that there is help out there for any problems they might have.”

Natalie Hinchliffe, neighbourhood regeneration officer at Harvest Housing and production director of Behind Closed Doors, said; “Drama is a platform for expression, and this production comes entirely from the Partington community. None of the people involved on or off stage have any past theatre experience, but are telling some very strong messages through this production. It is very emotional, and if you like raw theatre this will be everything you could wish for.”

There will be two performances at 2pm and 7pm on Thursday, February 23 at The Fuse in Partington. The play is suitable for anyone over 13, and tickets are free but must be reserved in advance. For tickets or more information, call 0161 776 6210.
