A MOTHER and daughter from Partington have both admitted benefit fraud in two separate cases.

The pair dishonestly claimed almost £20,000 between them.

Tina Gleim, 54, from Worthington Avenue appeared at Trafford Magistrates’ Court on February 21 and pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to inform the relevant authorities about changes in her circumstances.

She had continued to claim benefits on the basis she was living alone, when in fact her husband, who was in full-time employment, was living with her.

Gleim was overpaid £11,771.35 in benefits between June 2008 and December 2009.

She was ordered to repay all money falsely claimed, sentenced to six weeks, suspended for two years, a six-week curfew, and ordered to pay costs of £775.

In a separate case, her daughter Kimberley Gleim, 27, from Woodruff Walk, appeared at Trafford Magistrates’ Court on February 23, where she pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to report a change in her circumstances after she continued to claim benefits on the basis she was living alone when her partner, who was in full-time employment, was living with her.

She was ordered to repay the £7,729.50 falsely claimed, to pay a compensation order of £3,756.11 and costs of £728.24.

Kimberley Gleim was also sentenced to four weeks, suspended 12 months and a four-week curfew.

Executive Councillor Sean Anstee, said: "To uncover such blatant fraud by two members of the same family is testament to Council officers and the work they do to uncover multiple layers of quite shocking fraud.

“These two separate convictions must send a strong message out to local people.”
