THE Friends of Oak Road Park group has launched a campaign to raise £14,000 called ‘Piece of my Park’.

Residents, businesses and groups can sponsor a Piece of the Park from 50p per square metre.

Staff at GE Power have provided a £500 boost to their funds, by sponsoring a thousand square metre piece of the Partington park.

Project site manager at GE Power, Rainer Lueoend, said “We were pleasantly surprised at the dedication of the Friends of Oak Road Park team to turn this wonderful open space back into community use.

"They have some very ambitious plans and we commend them for their inspiration and hard work.”

Adele New, chairman of the group, said “Our incredible community have really pulled together to claim back our park and we have been blown away by the level of local support. We would like to thank GE Power for their very kind donation and we will be providing them with their certificate for their own “Piece of the Park”.

The group was formed to replace and repair the equipment on the park and have a five year plan to transform the park for future generations. Further information can be found at http://www.oakroadpark.co.uk/

GE Power is one of the consortium partners for the construction of Carrington Power Station on Manchester Road. The gas-fired station will supply enough electricity to meet the average demands of a million households when operational.
