NEWLY established youth football group Partington Rovers received an unexpected boost to their funds, thanks to GE staff at Carrington Power Station.

Workers at the power station have been donating cash for good causes since the construction began in 2013.

GE Power site manager Rainer Lueoend said: “We have been raising funds from a variety of means

"We have been impressed at the level of support from staff and contractors.

"We decided to donate the money this time to Partington Rovers. They provide football training to children of all ages and abilities and we wanted to help them get the teams off the ground.”

Colin Pickering, club manager, said “We were delighted that GE Power could support our fledgling club. The £500 donated will go towards providing much needed football kits for the children that play in the 6-10 age range.

"We are planning on growing the club to have eight teams and to get FA Charter Standard Football Club award.”

Partington Rovers is a family football club that caters for players of all abilities. Their overall aim is to ensure that everyone in the community has the opportunity to be involved with the club and football in an environment that it is both fun and rewarding.

GE Power is one of the consortium partners for the construction of Carrington Power Station on Manchester Road. The 880MW gas-fired station will supply enough electricity to meet the average demands of one million households when operational.
