PARTINGTON Sports and Social Club is holding a fundraising day on April 23, to enable five year-old Leigh Sowden to have a dream holiday at Disney World in Florida.
Leigh has a condition known as CNS Langerhans’ cell histiocytosis (LCH). It affects her blood cells and was picked up when doctors found holes in her bones at the age of two.
Leigh then spent a year on chemotherapy and was given the all-clear, but it was found the condition had returned after she slipped and fell at a swimming pool.
The fall left her in a coma – with doctors finding the LCH had returned in her brain. She was also found to have fluid on the brain, too.
Leigh needed to have a shunt inserted into her brain in order to relieve the pressure and, as a result, it’s left her unsteady on her feet and suffering from short-term memory loss.
She is currently undergoing another cycle of chemotherapy, which has deactivated the LCH and stopped it from spreading. While it’s not currently active in her body, it’s a degenerative illness and there is no cure.
Partington Sports and Social Club has organised a St. George's Day Family Fundraiser. During the day there will be a barbecue with music, fairground rides and stalls, a rodeo bull, bouncy castles, face-painting and raffles. At night there will be live music from singer Alison Gilligan. All proceeds are going towards helping Leigh get her dream holiday to Disneyland.
The day starts at midday on April 23 (St. George's Day) at Partington Sports and Social Club, Warburton Lane.
