PLANS to breathe new life into Carrington have been launched, following consultation with the community.

A draft masterplan for phase one of the proposed mixed-use community is set to be on display during an upcoming public exhibition.

The plan features up to 900 new homes; up to a million sq.ft. of employment space; a local centre for Carrington; and a new home for Carrington Rugby Club.

Residents, businesses and community groups are being urged to attend the drop-in session – to be held at Carrington Business Park on Monday, February 29, from 3pm-8pm – to comment on the vision as part of the next stage of consultation.

It follows a campaign launched in November 2015, during which the Future Carrington team asked the community about their aspirations for the 1,660 acre Carrington estate.

A total of 165 people took part in an online survey, where people identified their top priorities as creating a thriving community; improving transport links and delivering new job opportunities.

In addition to the survey, two workshops were held earlier this month where attendees took part in constructive, round-table discussions about the developing vision.

The land and property company HIMOR and Trafford Council are working together on the project.

Paul Stanley, director at HIMOR, said: “This is a landmark project for HIMOR and Trafford Council and we’re looking forward to creating a lasting legacy that the community will be proud of.”

The scheme will be brought forward in stages, regenerating the former Shell site and surrounding area. Following the next stage of consultation, HIMOR intend to submit two outline planning applications for phase one to Trafford Council during the spring.

Executive councillor for economic growth and planning at Trafford Council, Michael Young, said:

“Future Carrington will deliver genuine transformation and we welcome HIMOR’s approach in creating a vision that responds to people’s aspirations.”

A Future Carrington Community Newsletter has been issued to residents and is available to view, alongside further information about the proposed development, at www.futurecarrington.com.
