THE People’s Church of Partington received an unexpected boost to their funds thanks to GE staff at Carrington Power Station.

A large proportion of the donation came from a collection by GE Power workers.

Site manager, Rainer Lueoend, explained:“We have used many forms of fundraising activity on site to provide funds for community events. This time workers from site put their hands in their pockets to help the community in which they work.

"We decided to donate the £500 raised to the People’s Church for its Christmas community event."

Joe Smith, from the Peoples Church, said “We were thrilled that the GE Power project team decided to donate this money.

"At this time of year it provided much needed funding and we were able to hire two reindeers as part of the entertainment for the day. We were also delighted to welcome Rainer and his wife to the event.”

Jonathan Boyers, minister to the church, said: “Despite the unfortunate weather, we had a wonderful day.

"Over 700 people from the local community attended. We even persuaded Rainer to sample our delicious hotdogs.”

People's Church has been established in the heart of Partington for more than 40 years. The church welcomes all people, regardless of background, upbringing, family history or current circumstances.

GE Power is one of the consortium partners for the construction of Carrington Power Station on Manchester Road.

The 880MW gas-fired station will supply enough electricity to meet the average demands of 1 million households when operational.
